On August 27, 2024, I will be giving you a visual delight and squeezing into Lycra to ride my bike 160km in a day, from The Sutherland Shire to Culburra Beach on the South Coast of NSW.

This won’t be the biggest physical challenge I’ve personally undertaken, (that would be getting my butt off the couch), yet it pales in comparison to the trials faced by many in our community who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity due to financial hardship.

The reality is that there are thousands of people in the Sutherland Shire who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity due to financial hardship and are daily navigating stress and the negative social, mental, physical, and spiritual impacts associated with these realities.

Hunger is preventable and I am committed to making a difference for those who are going without.

Over the coming months, I am helping pioneering a community food project called Tamarisk. Our vision is to renew communities through food and our goal is to build community around cooking high-quality, low-cost, emergency relief meals for the community.

I'd love your support! Steve Payne
